Butterfly Protocol Overview
Offline-First Decentralized Social Network
🧬 Butterfly Protocol Overview
Butterfly is a "offline Bluetooth Mesh + on-chain proof of connection" decentralized social protocol. We address legacy problems of traditional networks through a differentiated stack.
🛠 Core Mechanisms
We built a serverless, censorship-resistant, offline-capable hyper-local physical social network.
P2P Discovery and Connection: Smartphones use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to continuously broadcast and scan nearby devices.
Store-and-Forward: Messages ripple through crowds to achieve beyond-line-of-sight communication.
Nodes Are the Network: Every user is both an endpoint of communication and a relay node of the network.
Proof of Connection (PoC): Core innovation. For the first time, offline real-world interactions are converted into on-chain verifiable assets.
⚔️ Protocol Comparison Analysis
Offline Usability: ✅ Fully supported (Bluetooth Mesh)
Privacy and Sovereignty: ✅ Privacy guaranteed (end-to-end encryption)
Interaction Verification: ✅ Physical proof of connection (PoC)
Why did historical Mesh apps (like FireChat) fail?
They ran into a "tragedy of the commons." Users lacked incentive to act as battery-draining relay nodes. Butterfly addresses this fundamental issue through SocialFi + DePIN incentive models.
